The Northland Down Syndrome Support Group provides support, information, advocacy and connection for people with Down syndrome and their whānau across Te Tai Tokerau.
The group offers a welcoming and non-judgmental place for families at every stage of their journey, including those who have recently received a diagnosis. Families can connect with people who understand their experiences, access practical information and resources, and be reassured that they do not have to navigate the journey alone.

Groups and activities
The group provides regular opportunities for friendship, participation and connection, including:
- Fortnightly GreatM8s social group gatherings
- Inclusive gymnastics sessions
- World Down Syndrome Day celebrations
- Christmas gatherings and other community events
Educational resources
Books, reading programmes and numeracy materials are available for families, schools and early childhood centres to borrow. These resources are designed to support learning, understanding and inclusion.
The group also works to raise awareness and promote positive attitudes towards Down syndrome throughout the wider community. Its Facebook page shares upcoming events, useful information, group updates and community news.
